Development Squad - Making football fun
"The U7's take players from the age of 5. The concentration at this level is on learning and practicing basic ball control skills such as passing and dribbling, as well as focusing on the benefits of teamwork over individualism. At this level, players do not compete in competitive leagues, and this allows individuals to develop at their own pace. As they do , their confidence, stamina and social interaction skills also increase
Training is by way of various drills and games, usually followed by a "match" (within the group), in which the players can learn to use the skills in a "live" situation. These matches also allow the "rules" of the game to be taught in a practical but fun way e.g. the proper taking of throw-ins, "safe" tackling.etc
In 2004/2005 - we had about 16 players registered, most of whom started with the Club earlier in the year a lot of them had only limited experience of football. After only two months, all are showing increased confidence, ball control, and already learning in their "match " experiences that "passing" achieves more goals and possession of the ball. This next season will see the children playing competitive games against other teams within Huntingdonshire
